You might remember me as the transfan from a few weeks ago who tried getting a petition to get tf on the cartoon network. I finally had up to 1,000 + names on the list but got no reply.

I had told this to some other cartoon revolutionists who got thundercats, voltron and sailor moon back on the air and they told me that I should go see the one of the executives of cartoon network who has a screen name on aol.

I couldn't find him but when I was visiting a He-man sight and they were trying to do the same thing i was but they wanted he man on toonami.

Well one of his responses was quite rude stating that he didn't want a stupid shows like heman, transformers or gi joe.

Well, I've given The Tomorrow People and The Third Eye a try, but I find both of them rather dull.

I haven't tried Dangermouse yet, but considering the raves I've seen about it here and in the DEC Easynet notesfiles, I'll probably give it a try.

BUT... I'm a hopeless You Can't Do That On Television addict.

Fox will debut its new animated series "Family Guy" after the Super Bowl Jan. 31. There is an article about it in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. After reading the article my first reaction is ho hum. It looks like just another variation on "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill". If you like those two shows you might like this one but it looks like more of the same in outlook and attitude.

It's got to be better than Eddie Murphy's foam-ation trash that premiered this past Sunday after 'The Simpsons' . . . unfunny stereotyping at it's worst, IMO.

UPN has a new animated series called Home Movies coming soon. They've already put one strike agains the show in my book with the extremely intrusive bugs of the main character they've put on other shows. The animation looks like a much less-polished version of Dr. Katz.

Has anyone heard anything good about the show or is it pre-trashed?

Don't know too much about it, except that it's from the same company that does the Saturday morning ABC kidvid show "Science Court". The animation is below crude, but good writing can make up for poor animation (eg, Rocky and Bullwinkle). Seems to me I read a good word about it in some magazine article about the deluge of animated series coming our way in the months ahead. We'll see. I thought "The Family Guy" was supposedly going to be good as well. Wow, was I in for a shock!

(It's kind of ironic that "Squigglevision" was originally coined as a joke by the "Katz" comics to laugh off low-grade Commodore Amiga animation--and now the producers have trademarked the name as intellectual property...)

I don't think I'll be seeing much of it. It hurts my eyes just to look at the promos. Dr. Katz gives me motion sickness, so I have been unable to get into the show. I think some of the jokes are probably funny--it's a purely visual thing. I can't. Look. At it.

Dr. Katz is a radio show with pictures.

First time I saw it, I was put off by the squigglevision. However, when I was just listening to it, and doing something else, I found it was pretty funny. Turn the brightness right down, or just don't look at the screen; just listen to it.

But if you do that, you'll miss some great visual bits - often someones' thoughts will be literalized with a bizarre visual - then there's shots like Katz talking with Al Franken, busily scrawling in his notebook, which we then see is an unflattering doodle of Franken as a baby. And I love Laura's pissed-off-at-the-world glare.

Well, that's like saying that you like a particular type of music if you listen to it with the volume completely turned down :-)

I'll admit, I thought the first season of SCIENCE COURT was very well written, and even fun to look at sometimes but HOME MOVIES is just awful (judging from the first episode I've seen). Basically, the animation artists took back seat and had no control over anything. Of course, they're so incompetent that they wouldn't have been able to do anything if they had control either. In either case, they allowed the actors free range and let them ad-lib pretty much the whole show based off a loose script and the animators just followed up by filling in the drawings to move the dialogue along. However, no concern was given to the animation, or even the visual side at any point of the production which begs the question, 'Why the hell is this an animated show?' In my opinion, people should be bombing Tom Snyder Productions (TSP) instead of abortion clinics because TSP is where the real crimes are happening :-)

I just saw the commercial a couple days ago, and it looks absolutely horrid. between this and the crap that is "Family Guy" (I saw the second episode and I have come to the conclusion that it truly is a piece o' Shite blemish against the Animation Industry) I think some suit at the networks must have it in for prime time animation. They're certainly doing a good job of F'ing up a good thing.

Now that I've seen the commercial, I have even _less_ desire to see the show than before. Are unpleasant scalp conditions a selling point in entertainment for some large segment of the population I'm unaware of?

And that's just one man's opinion....many are loving all the new shows, especially Family Guy. Deal with it...people enjoy it...don't let it bother you that much.
